When the owner, Virginia Drill, first opened Melody Makers Studio in Hillsborough, she put an outgoing message on the phone that said (among other things), "The joys and benefits of music last a lifetime."  Although the message has changed over the years, the statement is still true and is a basis for her commitment as a music teacher:  Music, in all its forms, adds joy, fun, and enrichment to everyone it touches.

Virginia Drill

Virginia taught music in Durham, NC, for 15 years before relocating to Hillsborough in 2001 to establish a studio and teach piano, guitar, voice, dulcimer, recorder, and autoharp (which she also taught in Durham).

The courses are all designed with each student as an individual in mind so that the materials and rate of instruction are comfortable and the student is challenged but not overwhelmed.  She uses a variety of texts and systems and tailor the course to fit the student.

Her goal for each student is that he/she learns to enjoy music and learns to play an instrument that can be enjoyed for a lifetime.

Virginia thanks her own first piano teacher, Mrs. Lucy Straley, of Chapel Hill, NC, whose patience, joy, and quiet persistence are her examples as a music teacher.

The studio at 508 Joyce Rd. in Hillsborough is equipped for both small group and individual instruction in piano, guitar, voice, recorder, dulcimer, and autoharp.  We attract students from throughout the area:  Hillsborough, Efland, Mebane, Burlington, Chapel Hill, Carrboro, Durham, and Rougemont.
